Turtles on ice
      01/29/24 08:53 PM

So, we have an ice eater and kept a hole open for some goose hunting, if we choose to do so at the blind. The recent frigid temps have sent virtually every goose north of here down to the area. I estimate 27 million between Elsberry and St. Louis. We've been able to kill some out if the duck blind over the past week. But I digress. Let's get to the important matter. Waiting on our next opportunity to honk at the honkers, I noticed something on the ice 150-200 yards away and figured it to be a log or possibly even a dead duck. About 20 mins later, it is still there but had moved a bit. Using 10X binoculars it was pretty easy to see it was a turtle. Over the next few hours, we saw 2-3 more on the ice and all of them were moving. Slowly, but moving.

Who knew turtles would come out from 3"-4" of ice and take a stroll around. Can't for the life of me figure out why and can't say I've ever seen turtles on ice. Can any of you hands enlighten me or am I going to have to use this internet thingy that Al Gore invented to see what's up?
